Hi, I’m Cintia. I’ve always loved books—especially English classics and stories that help us grow. Somewhere along the way, I realised books weren’t just something I loved; they were where I felt most at home.

I’m originally from Argentina, but now I live in Laag-Soeren, a quiet village in the Netherlands, with my husband Martin and our dog Luka. Most days you’ll find me reading, writing, sketching ideas in a notebook, or playing the piano—creative outlets that fuel my curiosity and keep me connected to what matters most.

For years, I’ve carried this hope of creating something meaningful—something that blends all the things I love: literature, creativity, and a sense of community. That’s how the idea of Paperbirds was born: an English-language bookshop and café, an inspiring space where books and conversations feel like home.

I hope my journey inspires you to follow your own path, and I would love to welcome you into the world I’m building—one story, one book, and one conversation at a time.

About Me

Our Paperbirds Mission And Vision

Paperbirds breathes life into the written word, where authors and their characters mingle among the pages, inviting readers into a realm of imagination through enchanting books adorned with evocative quotes, captivating illustrations, and harmonious melodies.

We aspire to create a welcoming and inspiring space where literature comes alive through characters, words, and artwork, appealing to all ages. Our goal is to encourage exploration and engagement with literature through keen observation, avid reading, enjoyable listening, and even tasting. Join us for a variety of activities including workshops, reading clubs, drawing sessions, performances, and the delightful experience of our cozy café.

Through the enchantment of literature, we aim to inspire individuals to embark on a journey of self-discovery, encouraging them to bloom, evolve, and embrace the essence of their authentic selves.

Why the name “Paperbirds”?
The birds represent the multitude of writers who experience freedom by expressing their ideas through storytelling. The paper embodies their crafted narratives. We incorporate a multitude of bird species within this name to represent the broad spectrum of readers and writers, thereby embracing diversity.

A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.

How It All Started

“Amid the rush of bikes and chatter, I stepped into a quiet antiquarian shop—and a dream began.”

It was one of those busy afternoons in Amsterdam—bikes whizzing by, people talking and laughing, the city full of movement. Mariel and I were just wandering, no real plan, when we turned a corner and there it was: a little antiquarian bookshop, tucked quietly among all the noise.

We stepped inside, and everything changed. The world outside faded. There was this soft smell of old paper, and three people were sitting at a wooden table, reading in the light coming through the window. It felt still, almost magical.

Something inside me shifted right then. I didn’t even say anything, but Mariel noticed. She took a quick photo of me, smiled, and grabbed my arm:

“Look at you,” she said. “This is what you’re meant to do—open your own bookshop.”

Later that afternoon, over a couple of drinks, we started talking about it. At first, just for fun. But the more we talked, the more real it felt. That little moment—unexpected, ordinary in a way—was where the dream of Paperbirds truly began.
